Safety Note:

Note that no runner will be allowed to start after 5:35. This is because the race’s rear safety vehicle will have already departed, and any runner starting after this would be running on open roads without protection from traffic.

Description:

Starting on the Trident College ring-road, runners exit the school on a short, smooth gravel road before joining the Kansanshi Mine Road. This road will take them out of Kansanshi Mine, through Mushitala neighbourhood and then down a steady hill towards Kabitaka. Turning right onto the main road through Solwezi City, runners will be protected by a complete lane closure all the way from one side of the city to the other. After exiting Solwezi at its western end, runners will turn right onto the Kansanshi Smelter Bypass Road. This is a tough section, and repeated hills combine with frequent headwinds to challenge the runners.

Entering Kansanshi Mine through the western gate, runners join the half marathon route for a few kilometres, before turning right and re-entering Trident college the same way they went out. Half a lap of the ring-road brings runners onto the field for a well-deserved cheer from the crowd.
